Six years of competition. Hundreds of athletes. And we’re ready to do it again.

The Summit Open Martial Arts Challenge returns!

📅 November 13–14, 2026
📍 Bishop O’Byrne High School Gymnasium

Since 2019, the Summit Open has grown into one of Alberta’s signature fall martial arts events, bringing together athletes from across Western Canada for a weekend of Traditional Sport Karate competition.

Tournament packages will go out to schools/instructors September 18, with registration opening September 28.

🥋 Open Forms Division - All Belts
🏆 Lower Team Event Pricing — just $50 per team. 

We want to see more teams competing, and every member of a Top 3 team will receive a medal.

Whenever possible, Forms divisions will be separated by Hard and Soft Style - Sparring divisions by gender and size.  Finalized divisions and sparring brackets will be published Friday, November 13.  We put a lot of work into divisions before anyone steps onto the mats. Our goal is to give athletes meaningful competition while keeping divisions as fair as possible.

And yes — Youth Kickboxing is back!

We’ve updated our sportsmanship rules for 2026, with clear expectations for athletes, coaches, and spectators.

The Summit Open is competitive, but it should also be a great experience for everyone who steps onto the mats. Compete hard, represent your school well, and show respect for your opponents, officials, coaches, and fellow competitors.

Whether this is your first tournament or one of many, we can’t wait to welcome back old friends, meet new ones, and see everyone on the mats this November.
